Then there’s the mother-wife life. Let's never forget that! Yes life is busy once again....
Not that I’m complaining. How can I complain when my life is so full and exciting!?
I do need to up the anti with my coordination skills however, or get left behind in the skid marks of my own life.
You know it’s not a good sign when you’re sitting at the kitchen table unable to move because your brain just went into overload trying to figure out what needs to be done and in what order. Not an uncommon thing for me by the way. But I have learnt over the years to activate the skill of compartmentalisation, (a worthy skill to have in such times) - it’s just getting to that activate point that can be a bit messy.
I read an interesting book many years back called “Men are like Waffles and Women are like Spaghetti”.
Like all good imagery, this one stuck with me because the thinking behind it was so good…and helped me to understand myself (and men).
(Back when I first read this book I struggled to understand the opposite sex, so this really helped me take a chill pill).
Basically the metaphor illustrates that most men are often more capable of separating things out and keeping them in their little boxes, which can be helpful when required to make practical, logical decisions - not so helpful when you just want them to understand your spaghetti way of thinking. All the twists and turns and loops and tangles. Often no way for a man to track one end to the other.
Our minds are beautiful aren’t they ladies? While some men may find it hard, we women can track a problem and consider all the facets without even trying.
I think having a spaghetti mind is great, and it has served me well over the years. But sometimes I wish I could just live in waffle land. It would be so much easier!
I’ve been told that I think more like a man than not (logical/practical – just in case your mind went spaghetti on that statement ha!) so I really shouldn’t complain, but it is a constant and daily battle between breakfast options that’s for sure.
I actually wrote a little productivity hack to help in such times of internal craziness, because I know other people struggle with this as well.
It’s called the “Chunk Strategy” (a play on ‘chunking the elephant’), and it truly can work. Go and check it out if you like. Its free!
